Dance

Dancing in the Bible?

Yep, dancing is mentioned in the Bible AND within Christian tradition. Just like everything else, it can be corrupted by the world and sin. It’s OUR JOB to take it back; bring back the GOODNESS of it.

We can and WILL!

So let’s take a look at where dancing is talked about in the Bible, and the many different contexts in which we find it:

Ecclesiastes 3:4
“A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.”

Jeremiah 31:4
“I will rebuild you, my virgin Israel.
You will again be happy
and dance merrily with your tambourines.”

Lamentations 5:15
“Joy has left our hearts;
our dancing has turned to mourning.”

Psalm 30:11-12
“You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing.
You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy,
that I might sing praises to you and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever!”

Psalms 149:3-4
“Praise his name with dancing,
accompanied by tambourine and harp.
For the Lord delights in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.”

Jeremiah 31:12-13
“They will come home and sing songs of joy on the heights of Jerusalem.
They will be radiant because of the Lord’s good gifts—
the abundant crops of grain, new wine, and olive oil,
and the healthy flocks and herds.
Their life will be like a watered garden,
and all their sorrows will be gone.
The young women will dance for joy,
and the men—old and young—will join in the celebration.
I will turn their mourning into joy.
I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing.”

Exodus 15:20-21
“Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine and led all the women as they played their tambourines and danced. 21 And Miriam sang this song:

‘Sing to the Lord,
for he has triumphed gloriously;
he has hurled both horse and rider
into the sea.’”

2 Samuel 6:14-17
“And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment. So David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the blowing of rams’ horns.
But as the Ark of the Lord entered the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she was filled with contempt for him.

They brought the Ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the special tent David had prepared for it. And David sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings to the Lord.”

Psalm 150
“Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heaven!
Praise him for his mighty works;
praise his unequaled greatness!
Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn;
praise him with the lyre and harp!
Praise him with the tambourine and dancing;
praise him with strings and flutes!
Praise him with a clash of cymbals;
praise him with loud clanging cymbals.
Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!
Praise the Lord!”

That’s right:
PRAISE THE LORD!
